From Harlem to the Low Country
When a migrant's journey was complete, and they had been to the North, and worked and cried and made themselves a home, many chose to make one more journey: back to the Low Country. When death came to the old, many wished to return to the South for burial. These people wanted a burial with all the rich traditions their heritage offered. Burial in a cemetery with family and friends was also a reason for the return to the Low Country. |
