Horehound

Horehound is commonly used as a cure for childrenās coughs, colds, and croup. This herb has expectorant properties that assist in loosening phlegm from the chest. A decoction made with horehound can be taken every morning as a remedy for diabetes. In large doses, horehound acts as a laxative. It can be applied topically as a remedy for herpes simplex, eczema, shingles, and eruptions.

Horehound contains vitamins A, E, C, F, and B-complex, iron, potassium, and sulphur. It is found in the North and South Carolina coastal plains.
