Lionel Hampton
The first feature vibes jazz musician, Lionel Hampton made was recorded in 1930 on "Memories of You"
with Louis Armstrong. Later, in Los Angeles, Hampton began his own band and in 1936 Benny Goodman persuaded him
to join the Goodman Quartet. In 1940, Hampton formed his own big orchestra and the following year had his first
big hit, "Flyin' Home." Since that time he continued to tour and became a professor of music at Howard
University in 1981.
