Southern African Americans moved north to find better opportunity and a more tolerant atmosphere. While the industrial world offered jobs and a sense of stability, community organizations and social clubs were missing. Often, white social clubs were segregated and many African-Americans began their own. These exclusively African American organizations worked to build commuity ties and stability, making their presence in both northern and southern cities stronger and more solid. | ||
